Patna: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Monday released its first list of 143 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Party leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who is also the state’s Deputy Chief Minister, will contest from the Raghopur constituency, reaffirming his position as a central figure in the party’s campaign.
The RJD is contesting the elections as part of the broader INDIA bloc, which includes the Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, and the Vikassheel Insaan Party. While several allies have announced their candidates—Congress releasing 60 names and CPI and CPI(ML)L finalizing theirs—the formal seat-sharing arrangement has not yet been officially disclosed.
The first batch of candidates reflects a mix of seasoned leaders and new faces aimed at strengthening RJD’s presence across the state. Notable names include Renu Kushwaha from Biharganj, Abdus Subhan from Baisi, Amar Paswan from Bochahan (SC), Anita Devi Mahto from Warsaliganj, and Shailendra Pratap Singh from Taraiya.
Veteran leaders such as Dr. Faraz Fatmi contesting from Keoti, Dr. Ramanuj Prasad from Sonepur, and Lalit Yadav from Darbhanga Rural, along with emerging political figures like Prof. Chandra Shekhar from Madhepura and Yusuf Sattauddin from Simri Bakhtiarpur, are expected to play key roles in the elections. The party has also fielded women candidates in strategic constituencies, including Mala Pushpam (Hasanpur), Rita Priye Chaudhary (Imamganj SC), Prema Chaudhary (Patepur SC), and Dr. Karishma Rai (Parsa), emphasizing its commitment to gender representation.
Other important candidates include Gautam Krishna RDO from Mahishi, Vinod Mishra from Alinagar, Ravi Ranjan Kumar from Asthawan, Niranjan Rai from Gaighat, and Bogo Singh from Mathihani. Prominent constituencies such as Hajipur will see Dev Kumar Chaurasia in the fray, while Barh will be contested by Karmveer Singh.
The RJD’s list also features leaders from minority communities, such as Yusuf Sattauddin (Simri Bakhtiarpur), Abdus Subhan (Baisi), Anwarul Haq Ansari (Goriakothi), and Sheikh Zeyaut Hassan (Nathnagar), reflecting the party’s inclusive strategy to consolidate its voter base across different regions of Bihar.
With the first list of 143 candidates announced, the political heat in Bihar is expected to intensify as parties prepare for the high-stakes assembly elections.
