Ballia: Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel sparked a strong debate with her remarks about live-in relationships and the challenges facing young women and students in the state. Speaking at the 7th convocation of Jananayak Chandrashekhar University in Ballia, the Governor urged women to be cautious of the dangers posed by informal relationships, citing alarming social consequences.

“If you want to see the consequences of live-in relationships, visit an orphanage. Girls as young as 15 to 20 years old are standing in line, each carrying a one-year-old child,” Patel said, highlighting what she described as a growing social issue. She linked the trend to greed and exploitation, stating that men often lure young women into hotels, have children with them, and then abandon them.

“These are not our values, yet such incidents are happening. Women should dedicate themselves to noble goals rather than falling prey to such situations,” she added, emphasizing the societal responsibility to protect young girls.

Governor Patel also addressed other pressing concerns at the event, including the rising use of drugs among young people. She expressed hope that one day all youth in the state would be free from substance abuse.

In addition to social issues, the Governor called for improvements in the teaching and learning culture at universities. She encouraged students to attend classes regularly and focus on academic excellence as a step toward personal and societal development.
