Bengaluru: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, 83, was admitted to MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru late Tuesday night after developing a fever, prompting concern among party workers and political leaders nationwide.

Hospital authorities said Kharge is under observation, with doctors conducting diagnostic tests to determine the cause of his fever. Officials reassured that there is no immediate cause for alarm and that his condition is stable, according to IndiaTV reports. Further updates are expected once the medical team completes its assessments.

Though the illness appears minor, Kharge’s hospitalisation has attracted significant public attention due to his senior role in national politics and the demanding responsibilities he has held as Congress chief. Leaders across party lines have extended wishes for his speedy recovery, while social media platforms have seen an outpouring of support and prayers acknowledging his decades of service.

Kharge, who assumed charge as President of the All India Congress Committee in October 2022, succeeding Sonia Gandhi, has been a guiding force for the party, shaping strategies and forging alliances within the opposition INDIA bloc. Born in 1942, his political career spans several decades, during which he has served as parliamentarian, Union minister, and leader of the opposition, earning a reputation as a grassroots leader with strong organisational skills.
