Navi Mumbai: The highly anticipated Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), strategically located near Panvel and Ulwe, is all set to begin operations by the end of September 2025, giving Mumbai residents a brand-new gateway for air travel.

Assigned the IATA code “NMI” and ICAO code “VANM”, NMIA will join the aviation map alongside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM). The IATA code ensures smooth ticketing and baggage handling, while the ICAO code is vital for air traffic and flight management. Travelers are advised to check the NMI code while booking flights, as it will appear on tickets once the airport opens.

IndiGo and Akasa Air are the first carriers ready to operate from NMIA. IndiGo will start with 18 daily flights covering 15+ cities, eventually expanding to 79 daily flights and 14 international destinations by March 2026. Meanwhile, Akasa Air plans to operate around 100 domestic flights per week initially, scaling up to over 300 domestic and 50 international flights weekly by November 2026.

For first-time visitors, airport officials recommend arriving at least two hours before domestic departures, carrying electronics in hand luggage, and keeping boarding passes and IDs ready for security checks. Passengers should follow airport signage for smooth check-in and boarding and verify NMIA availability while booking online via airline websites or platforms like MakeMyTrip and Cleartrip.
