Mumbai: The Maratha reservation protest led by activist Manoj Jarange Patil ran into new trouble on Tuesday as Mumbai Police served a notice to him and his core committee, citing violations of court and police conditions.
According to officials, the Azad Maidan Police directed Jarange’s team to vacate the protest venue immediately, stressing that their actions had breached the permitted terms. The notice also highlighted Jarange’s recent media remarks, which authorities claimed further contributed to the violation of rules.
This comes a day after the Bombay High Court strongly criticized the ongoing agitation, labeling it unlawful and disruptive. The bench observed that while the right to protest is guaranteed under the Constitution, the stir had “gone far beyond permissible limits,” crippling Mumbai during the festive Ganeshotsav season.
