Owaisi Slams NCERT Over Partition Narrative, Demands Inclusion of Muslims Against Partition

New Delhi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday strongly criticised the portrayal of Muslims in Partition-related narratives, demanding that NCERT include the book Muslims Against Partition by Shamsul Islam in its curriculum to present what he termed as the “true history.”

Speaking to reporters, Owaisi lashed out at the repeated blame being cast on Muslims for Partition. “Include the book Muslims Against Partition by Shamsul Islam in the NCERT. This lie is told again and again about Partition. At that time, not even 2-3% Muslims had the right to vote, and today people blame us for the Partition. How were we responsible for that? Those who fled from here, they fled. Those who were loyal, they stayed,” Owaisi said, in a sharp rebuttal to what he described as “distorted narratives.”

Owaisi argued that the dominant historical accounts often ignore the voices of Muslim leaders and intellectuals who opposed the Partition plan, and instead create a monolithic image of Muslims as supporters of Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s demand for Pakistan. “This distortion needs to stop. Generations of students are being fed a half-truth,” he added.

The Hyderabad MP also emphasised that education should reflect a “plural and inclusive perspective” rather than one that pits communities against each other. “If NCERT can introduce new modules on Partition, then it should also include literature that shows how millions of Muslims opposed the division of India. History must be fair to all sides,” Owaisi stressed.
