PM Modi Hails RSS as the World’s Largest NGO, Commemorates 100 Years of Service on Independence Day

Delhi: On India’s 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), describing it as the largest non-governmental organization (NGO) in the world while lauding its century-long dedication to the nation. Modi made the remarks during his address from the historic ramparts of the Red Fort in New Delhi on Friday.

“Today, I would like to proudly mention that 100 years ago, an organisation was born — the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS),” the Prime Minister stated. “100 years of service to the nation is a proud, golden chapter. With the resolve of ‘vyakti nirman se rashtra nirman’, and with the aim of the welfare of Maa Bharati, swayamsevaks dedicated their lives to the service of our motherland. In a way, RSS is the biggest NGO in the world. It has a history of 100 years of dedication.”

The centenary celebrations of the RSS, titled “100 Years of Sangh Yatra – New Horizons”, are scheduled to take place from August 26 to August 28 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The three-day event is expected to showcase the organization’s objectives, ideology, and societal contributions over the past century.

Highlighting the continued relevance of discipline and dedication, Modi emphasized the Sangh’s commitment to nation-building and social welfare, noting that the organisation has played a pivotal role in fostering community service and civic engagement across India.

Earlier in the day, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat urged citizens not to be complacent about the country’s hard-won independence. Speaking at the RSS office in Bhubaneswar, Bhagwat emphasized that preserving India’s sovereignty requires continuous effort, hard work, and personal sacrifice.

“Our ancestors ensured India’s independence by making supreme sacrifices,” Bhagwat said. “We too need to be as hardworking to keep it alive and to make the country self-confident, so that India can emerge as a ‘Vishwa Guru’ and guide a world engaged in conflict.”
