Former MLA Omprakash Kadu Convicted for Assaulting IAS Officer, Sentenced to Three Months’ Jail

Mumbai: The Special MP and MLA Court found former MLA Omprakash Kadu, also known as Bacchu Kadu, guilty of using criminal force against an IAS officer at Mantralaya in September 2018. He has been sentenced to three months in prison and fined ₹10,000.

Kadu was convicted under charges of obstructing a public servant from performing his duties and criminal intimidation. However, the court’s order has been temporarily stayed, allowing Kadu to appeal to the High Court. He was also granted bail pending further proceedings.

Special Judge Satyanarayan R Navander emphasized that Kadu had numerous legal avenues to voice his grievances but chose instead to confront the officer violently. The judge remarked that such conduct not only harms the reputation of the officer but also tarnishes the image of the government.

The incident occurred on September 26, 2018, when Kadu, accompanied by several associates, forcefully entered the office of IAS officer Pradeep, who was meeting with Deputy Secretary Pradip Chandran. Kadu aggressively questioned Pradeep about the Mahapariksha, a competitive exam conducted by the Maharashtra IT Corporation. When Pradeep tried to explain, Kadu’s behavior turned abusive, and he even threatened to strike the officer with an iPad.

Following the assault, Pradeep filed a complaint with the Marine Drive police station the next day.
