Bengaluru: In a deeply disturbing case that has stunned Karnataka, Pallavi Om Prakash, the wife of former state Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash, has been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband in their Bengaluru home. The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has taken over the investigation, which is now unearthing chilling details of domestic discord, mental health concerns, and long-standing property disputes.

The 68-year-old retired IPS officer was found dead in a pool of blood on Sunday evening (April 20) at his residence in HSR Layout. Police sources revealed that a violent argument between the couple escalated fatally when Pallavi, 64, allegedly threw chilli powder into his face before stabbing him multiple times in the chest and abdomen.

According to News18, Pallavi later told reporters during a visit to the crime scene, “Domestic violence was the reason behind my actions.” She further admitted to a friend via video call shortly after the incident, saying, “I have killed the monster.”

The CCB, which took over the high-profile investigation, said that a broken glass bottle and a knife were found near the victim’s body. Om Prakash was rushed to St John’s Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The couple reportedly had a history of domestic disputes, which had intensified in recent months. Tensions were said to have reached a boiling point over a property in Dandeli. Sources say Pallavi had even staged a protest outside the HSR Layout police station a few months ago, claiming her complaints of abuse were ignored.

Adding complexity to the case is Pallavi’s reported battle with schizophrenia, for which she was undergoing treatment.

Their son, Kartikesh, has also filed a formal complaint, implicating both his mother and sister in the alleged crime. “My mother Pallavi and my sister Kriti used to fight with my father often. I strongly suspect that they are involved in the murder of my father,” he stated.

Pallavi has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody as the CCB continues to probe the sensational murder. The former DGP was cremated with full state honours on Monday. Following the funeral, Kartikesh told reporters, “The police are doing their job, and I have full faith in them.”
