Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines and Telangana BJP President G. Kishan Reddy has alleged that the Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) are deliberately staying out of the Hyderabad local authorities’ constituency MLC election with the intention of defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BJP leader claimed that both parties are collaborating with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) to consolidate votes against the BJP. During a meeting with BJP leaders ahead of the MLC polls, he accused the Congress and BRS leadership of lacking the moral authority to target the BJP while indirectly aiding AIMIM.

According to Reddy, the BJP remains the only party in the fray confronting AIMIM, a party he linked to controversial historical legacies. He further criticized the previous BRS-led state government, alleging that its development agenda was skewed towards areas with vested real estate interests of its leaders.

He also credited the current industrial growth in Hyderabad and Telangana to the policies and initiatives implemented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government at the Centre. Reddy asserted that Telangana would witness more balanced and accelerated development only if the BJP were voted to power.

The election for a single seat in the Telangana Legislative Council from the Hyderabad local authorities’ constituency is scheduled for April 23. BJP candidate N. Goutham Rao is facing AIMIM’s Mirza Riyaz Ul Hasan Effendi in a head-to-head contest.

AIMIM is seen as the frontrunner in the poll with a significant number of secured votes, including 40 corporators, seven MLAs, an MP, and an MLC, totaling 49 votes. With the reported backing of 13 Congress-affiliated voters, AIMIM’s chances appear strong.
