Jammu & Kashmir: The Indian Army has strongly refuted reports claiming casualties in a terrorist firing incident in Akhnoor’s Sunderbani sector, calling them “false and deliberate disinformation”. The firing, which took place on Wednesday, targeted an Army convoy, but troops swiftly retaliated, and no soldiers were harmed, according to an official defence statement.

“Terrorists opened fire at an Indian Army convoy in Sunderbani, Akhnoor. The firing was ineffective, and our troops responded immediately. Some social media handles are falsely claiming casualties—this is completely untrue. Search operations are underway to neutralize the perpetrators,” the statement read.

Following the attack, joint security forces launched massive search operations, but as of Thursday, no direct contact with the terrorists had been reported. Meanwhile, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha chaired high-level security meetings in Srinagar and Jammu, directing forces to dismantle terror networks by cracking down on terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.

The L-G also linked drug smuggling and hawala networks to terrorism funding in J&K, emphasizing that the war against drugs is directly tied to the fight against terrorism in the region.
