New Delhi :The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has strongly condemned the Union Government’s attempts to evade enacting a law that guarantees Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops at the Swaminathan Commission’s C2+50% formula while ensuring procurement and price realization.
In a press release issued today, SKM accused the Modi government of working at the behest of corporate lobbies and anti-national forces seeking to take over India’s agriculture sector for profiteering, jeopardizing the nation’s food security. The farmers’ body warned that the government has been deceiving farmers for 11 years on the issue of MSP and that it is time for nationwide protests to force the government to honor its written assurance given to farmers in December 2021, based on which SKM had suspended the Delhi Farmers’ Protest.
Farmers Reject National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing
SKM also outrightly rejected the government’s proposed National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing, calling it a reintroduction of the three black farm laws, which were repealed after massive protests. The organization vowed that farmers would not allow such policies to be implemented.
Additionally, SKM denounced the partial procurement proposal suggesting 25-30% MSP procurement, calling it an anti-farmer corporate conspiracy aimed at depriving farmers of their legal rights. The farmers’ union issued a stern warning to those attempting to dilute the MSP demand, stating they “will not be spared or forgiven by the farmers of India.”
SKM Calls for Unified Action Against Anti-Farmer Policies
Reiterating its uncompromising stance, SKM urged all farmer organizations to stay vigilant and united in resisting attempts to dilute the MSP demand and pledged to intensify protests until the government enacts a legal MSP guarantee.
