New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi, accusing it of breaking its election promise to provide ₹2,500 per month to women. Former Delhi Minister and senior AAP leader Atishi criticized the BJP for failing to implement the scheme in its very first cabinet meeting, calling it a “betrayal” of the people of Delhi.

After the swearing-in of Delhi’s new Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her cabinet ministers, the government held its first cabinet meeting at 7 PM. However, according to Atishi, the much-anticipated scheme for women’s financial assistance, which the BJP had promised during its election campaign, was not passed.

“The BJP had assured the women of Delhi that in the first cabinet meeting itself, they would pass the scheme. But today, despite having their first meeting, the BJP has already started breaking its promises,” Atishi said. She further alleged that the BJP had “made up its mind to cheat the people of Delhi.”

During the Delhi Assembly election campaign, the BJP had aggressively pitched the ₹2,500 monthly assistance scheme to woo women voters, who form a significant electoral bloc. The promise was seen as a counter to AAP’s existing welfare programs such as free bus rides for women and subsidized electricity.

Now, with the BJP forming the government, AAP is keen to highlight any deviation from these promises. The party is expected to build pressure on the new administration to deliver on its commitments, making women’s welfare a key political battleground.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders have not yet responded to AAP’s allegations. Whether the scheme will be implemented in the coming days remains to be seen. However, for now, the opposition is making it clear that it will not let the ruling party forget its electoral commitments.

With Delhi’s political landscape heating up, all eyes will be on the BJP’s next moves—whether it fulfills its poll promises or risks facing backlash from women voters in the capital.
