Kolkata: The parents of a 31-year-old postgraduate doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, have accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to prevent attempts to “destroy” evidence in the case. The incident has sparked outrage, raising questions about the role of the state administration and law enforcement.

Speaking to the media on Friday, the victim’s mother alleged that Banerjee, who also oversees the health and police departments, cannot absolve herself of responsibility for the alleged lapses. “She cannot disown the failure of her administration. The police and hospital staff tried to destroy evidence, and her administration is accountable for this,” the mother stated.

The victim’s father further criticized the state police for conducting a “shoddy investigation” and accused them of shielding individuals involved in the crime. He also expressed disappointment with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), claiming it failed to address their concerns and ignored critical evidence during its inquiry.

The victim’s family has alleged that a “larger conspiracy” behind the crime is being deliberately hidden. “The state failed to protect a woman doctor on duty. Despite our testimony being recorded, the investigation did not touch upon key aspects of the case,” the victim’s mother added.
