Mumbai: Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, has revealed that she and her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana, narrowly escaped death in what she claims was a planned assassination attempt. In an emotional audio message shared late Friday on the official Facebook page of the Bangladesh Awami League, Hasina recounted the harrowing ordeal, saying, “Rehana and I survived – just 20-25 minutes apart, we escaped death.”
Hasina, who has survived multiple assassination attempts throughout her political career, suggested that the attack was part of a broader conspiracy to eliminate her and her family after she was ousted from power. In the audio, she expressed her belief that her survival was due to the will of Allah, saying, “I just feel that surviving the killings on August 21 or surviving the huge bomb in Kotalipara, surviving on this time August 5, 2024, there must be a will of Allah, a hand of Allah.”
Her voice tinged with emotion, Hasina reflected on her personal suffering, “Although I am suffering, I am without my country, without my home, everything has been burned. However, it seems to be the mercy of Allah that I am still alive because Allah wants me to do something more.”
The former Prime Minister, who has been the target of numerous attacks during her political career, notably survived the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack, which occurred during an anti-terrorism rally on Bangabandhu Avenue. The attack killed several party leaders and injured many others, but Hasina narrowly escaped.
