The Devendra Fadnavis-led Mahayuti alliance government successfully cleared the confidence vote in the Maharashtra assembly on Monday. The trust motion, tabled by Shiv Sena MLA Uday Samant, NCP leader Dilip Walse Patil, BJP’s Sanjay Kute, and others, was passed through a voice vote, affirming the alliance’s commanding majority.

Speaker Rahul Narwekar declared the motion approved, solidifying the alliance’s position in the assembly. With the Mahayuti coalition holding a majority of 230 MLAs in the 288-member House, the outcome of the floor test was anticipated. This development marks a continuation of the government’s strong foothold since Fadnavis took office.

Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as Chief Minister for the third time on December 5, with Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar assuming roles as Deputy Chief Ministers. The swearing-in ceremony, held at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, was graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signaling the significance of the political realignment in Maharashtra.

The 15th legislative assembly commenced its tenure on December 7. Following Narwekar’s election as Speaker, the Mahayuti coalition has strengthened its numbers further, including support from smaller parties and independent MLAs. The successful trust vote underscores the stability of the Fadnavis-led administration in one of India’s most politically dynamic states.
