In a heart-wrenching incident in Tamil Nadu, seven people lost their lives when a massive boulder crashed onto their home in the Tiruvannamalai district following heavy rainfall. The tragedy unfolded on the afternoon of December 1, when the boulder fell onto the residence of Rajkumar, a local man, on 11th Street in VOC Nagar, Tiruvannamalai, around 4 pm. The incident is believed to be triggered by continuous rainfall in the region due to Cyclone Fengal.

The victims have been identified as Rajkumar, his 27-year-old wife Meena, their two young children, 8-year-old son Gowtham and 5-year-old daughter Viniya, as well as Ramya (7), Vinodhini (16), and Maha (7), all of whom tragically lost their lives in the disaster.

Rescue operations were swiftly launched, and while five of the victims’ bodies have been recovered, efforts are ongoing to retrieve the remaining two. The authorities have already mobilized search teams to ensure that no one else is trapped under the debris.

In response to the catastrophic event, experts from Madras IIT have arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of the landslide and the collapse. Initial reports suggest that the boulder may have loosened from the hills due to the heavy rains brought on by Cyclone Fengal, which has been affecting various parts of the region.

Local officials have expressed their deep condolences to the grieving families and are offering support to those affected by this devastating loss. The community in Tiruvannamalai remains in shock as authorities continue to assess the damage and provide aid in the aftermath of the tragedy.
