Tensions have escalated within the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance over the allocation of seats in the Sangli constituency, as Congress MLA and Sangli district leader Vishwajeet Kadam voiced dissent against the decision made during a press conference held by the alliance leaders on Gudi Padva.
The Mahavikas Aghadi, comprising the Shiv Sena, Congress, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), recently announced the final seat allocation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, the allocation of the Sangli constituency appears to have stirred controversy, particularly among Congress leaders in the district.
Speaking at a press conference, Vishwajeet Kadam emphasized the significance of the Sangli constituency to the Congress party and the sentiments of Congress workers in the region. He expressed disappointment over the unilateral decision made by the Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray group to nominate candidates from Sangli, despite Congress’s strong presence and support base in the district.
Kadam alleged that the decision to allocate the Sangli constituency to the Shiv Sena was made without proper consultation with Congress leaders and office bearers in the region. He highlighted the demand from Congress leaders and workers to reconsider the allocation and urged the Mahavikas Aghadi leadership to review their decision.
“The Sangli constituency holds great importance for the Congress party, with strong support from both MLAs and grassroots level office bearers. We urge the Mahavikas Aghadi and the Congress leadership to reconsider the allocation of Sangli constituency,” Kadam stated.
Kadam further asserted that he and fellow Congress leader Vishal Patil would engage in efforts to gauge the sentiments of party workers and office bearers in the coming days, emphasizing the need for unity and consensus within the alliance.
