The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a stern rebuke to China on Tuesday for its recent actions of renaming several places in Arunachal Pradesh, emphasizing that such attempts to assign invented names will not alter the reality of the region being an integral part of India.
In a statement, the MEA denounced China’s “senseless attempts” to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh, reaffirming that the state will remain an integral and inalienable part of India. The ministry firmly rejected China’s efforts, emphasizing that assigning new names will not change the ground reality.
The Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs reportedly released a list of standardized geographical names in Zangnan, which is the Chinese name for Arunachal Pradesh. However, New Delhi reiterated its stance that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India, despite China’s claims to the contrary.
Reacting to China’s actions, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized on Monday that changing names will not alter the sovereignty of Arunachal Pradesh. He questioned the logic behind China’s move, stating that renaming places does not change their ownership.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also condemned China’s renaming efforts, asserting that such actions will not change the historical facts or ground reality. He emphasized that the people of Arunachal Pradesh are patriotic Indians and that the region is an integral part of India.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge joined the chorus of condemnation, urging the BJP-led Central government to strongly reprimand China for its actions. He criticized Prime Minister Modi for his perceived failure to address China’s provocations effectively, calling for decisive action from the government in response to China’s “absurd” actions.
