Jailed gangster turned politician Mukhtar Ansari, who had earlier suffered a heart attack at Banda jail, was pronounced dead by Banda Medical College hospital, where he was taken for treatment.
Ansari’s lawyer, Naseem Haider, who was sitting outside the hospital, confirmed the news, stating, “I received information that he has been brought here, so I have come here.”
This incident follows claims made by Ansari and his brother Afzaal Ansari, alleging that Mukhtar was being poisoned while in jail.
In a letter penned by Mukhtar Ansari, he detailed the events of March 19, stating that the food served to him was laced with a poisonous substance, which led to him falling severely ill.
Ansari recounted experiencing excruciating pain in the nerves of his hands and legs after consuming the tainted food, with his extremities growing cold as a result.
The demise of Mukhtar Ansari comes shortly after his sentencing to life imprisonment on March 13 in the 36-year-old Ghazipur fake arms license case.
