Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, is reportedly unwell after consuming food provided at Adiala jail, where she is currently serving her imprisonment in connection with Toshakhana and ‘un-Islamic’ Nikkah cases. Media reports have cited her sister, Maryamn Riaz Wattoo, expressing concerns over Bushra Bibi’s health and safety.

According to Bushra Bibi’s sister, her condition has deteriorated over the past six days, and she has been unable to eat anything due to experiencing pain. Alleging that Bushra Bibi was served harmful food at the jail, her sister emphasized that home-cooked food has not been permitted for her, urging authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly.

“We fear that Bushra Bibi is being given some harmful food, and it is the authorities’ responsibility to bring the perpetrators to book,” Maryamn Riaz Wattoo stated, highlighting the grave concerns regarding Bushra Bibi’s well-being.

Amidst these developments, Maryamn Riaz Wattoo affirmed her sister’s unwavering support for Imran Khan, stating, “She is with Khan Sahib, and she will be with Khan Sahib forever.” This statement underscores Bushra Bibi’s steadfast allegiance to her husband, despite facing legal challenges.

The legal troubles for Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan stem from the “un-Islamic nikah” case, in which a trial court recently sentenced both individuals to seven years in prison. The case was initiated following a plea by Bushra Bibi’s former husband, Khawar Maneka, who alleged that her marriage to Imran Khan was illegal and against Islamic principles.

Khawar Maneka argued that the marriage was fraudulent, asserting that it took place during Bushra Bibi’s iddat period following her divorce from him. The petition filed by Maneka stated that the nikah ceremony was conducted without observing the required iddah period, thereby rendering it invalid under Islamic law.

Additionally, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous punishment in the Toshakhana case, adding to their legal challenges and further complicating their situation.

As concerns mount over Bushra Bibi’s health and safety, her sister’s plea for intervention underscores the urgency of addressing the issue promptly to ensure the well-being of the former prime minister’s wife.
