Baba Siddique, the Mumbai politician who recently departed from the Congress party to join the NCP, has responded to Ashok Chavan’s decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, stating that his former party should consider it as a wake-up call.
Chavan, a former Maharashtra chief minister, announced his entry into the BJP, expressing his intention to further Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda.
Siddique revealed that Chavan had reached out to him, indicating that their paths would intersect in the near future.
Although Chavan has not disclosed the reasons behind his departure from the Congress, Siddique remarked that many individuals feel stifled within the party.
“Ashok Chavan contacted me, and I informed him that we will soon discuss our future endeavors. More individuals are likely to depart because when someone feels constrained, they seek alternative paths. This should serve as a wake-up call for the Congress, but I doubt they will heed it,” Siddique stated.
Siddique criticized the Congress, accusing them of residing in a fantasy world.
“They are oblivious to the signs. It is unfortunate that despite being established in 1885, people are abandoning the Congress in droves. There must be a reason behind this exodus,” he added.
Addressing the trend of leaders leaving the Congress, Siddique attributed it to decisions made by the party’s high command.
“I believe this is not due to any specific leader but rather the collective decisions made by the high command. Non-elected individuals are making decisions for the party, including some who have never contested elections,” he explained.
Earlier this year, Milind Deora also departed from the Congress and joined Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena.
Meanwhile, Ashok Chavan, upon joining the BJP, asserted that he did not place any conditions before the party.
“I have joined the BJP with the aim of contributing to the development initiatives of the central government led by Narendra Modi. My decision is unconditional, without any demands for a position. It marks a new chapter for me after serving in politics for 38 years,” Chavan stated following his induction into the BJP in the presence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
