In a significant development, an all-party meeting called by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to address the Maratha reservation issue concluded on Wednesday, November 1. The meeting brought together leaders from various political parties in the state, and they reached a consensus on providing reservation to the Maratha community.
A letter uploaded by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Maharashtra outlined the decisions made during the all-party meeting. It was agreed that all necessary legal measures would be taken to fulfill the Maratha community’s demand for reservation. However, the letter also noted that the implementation process would require time, and the government appealed to those seeking reservation to be patient as it works to meet their demands.
The letter concluded with a plea to Manoj Jarange-Patil, a prominent figure in the Maratha community’s agitation, to end his hunger strike and cooperate with the government.
Jarange-Patil, however, has refused to yield and remains resolute in his demand for ‘full reservation’ for the Maratha community. He questioned the government’s need for time and the specifics of their plan regarding reservation, expressing skepticism about the government’s resolution.
“The government is filing cases against the children of poor people. They are not taking the issue seriously. Give us reservation, I will stop referring to you in an arrogant manner. Give reservation to the Marathas. What do you need time for?” Manoj Jarange-Patil demanded.
He also raised concerns about the potential issuance of Kunbi caste certificates to Marathas and emphasized the community’s commitment to their cause.
“We don’t accept the government’s resolution. Will the government start giving complete reservation soon? We don’t want partial reservation. We won’t stop our protest until we get full reservation,” clarified Manoj Jarange-Patil, who has been on an eight-day hunger strike.
Manoj Jarange-Patil called for former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to engage in discussions and voiced his determination to continue the community’s fight for reservation.
“Devendra Fadnavis should come here, the Marathas won’t stop him. I called him for discussion but he did not come. If we take it to heart, Fadnavis will be silenced in 5 minutes,” he asserted.
Today marks the eighth day of Manoj Jarange-Patil’s hunger strike, and he has announced his intention to stop drinking water from this evening, underscoring the urgency of the Maratha community’s demand for full reservation.
