Mumbai: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Mumbai unit has slammed the Shinde-Fadnavis government over its lack of political will to deliver on the promise of Primary Healthcare Clinics (PHCs) in Mumbai. In a statement issued here on Thursday, Preeti Sharma Menon, President – Aam Aadmi Party Mumbai stated that given the track record of the state government the PHCs may turn into another avenue of corruption.

The Shinde-Fadnavis government being forced to speak about healthcare is itself a testimony to New Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Delhi model of Government, she added.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have announced that they will be launching 51 community health clinics in Mumbai. With the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) record over the last 30 years, they are sure to make a complete mess of this project just like they have done in all areas of infrastructure like roads, traffic management, cleanliness etc.

Menon stated “Everyone in Mumbai is aware of the dismal state of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hospitals and clinics where there are no proper doctors, shortage of medicines and lac facilities. In fact, they are so dirty and badly maintained and no one has forgotten about the death of a patient in Rajawadi hospital who died due to rat bites.”

“So, these clinics will be just for showcasing and will become new avenues for corruption and they will never be able to duplicate the AAP model which is now working so well in Delhi and Punjab”, added Menon.

“Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi model of development has universal free quality healthcare as its cornerstone. The Mohalla Clinics of Delhi has played a pivotal role in reducing congestion in tertiary hospitals, while providing excellent state of the art infrastructure for primary health care”, remarked the AAP Mumbai chief.

Menon further stated, “These initiatives work only when the intentions are honest and there is political will. But as we already know from experience that the intentions of Shiv sena and BJP combination are focused on corruption and a brazen power grab”.

“This is another political gimmick in the elections. That the Aam Aadmi Party has forced politicians to work towards delivering health care, is a testament to the far-reaching effects of our Delhi Model and the growth of a movement for clean politics and efficient public service delivery”, added Menon.

We hope the people of Mumbai will give AAP an opportunity in the coming elections to prove to Mumbaikars that a clean and honest government can deliver”. Menon said.
