Mumbai: Paying tribute to Malharrao Holkar, the subedar of the Maratha empire on his birth anniversary today, BJP MLC Gopichand Padalkar alleged that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government is wiping out the real history of the noble subedar of the Maratha Empire. He even appealed to the masses to join hands and work for the rights of the OBCs, Dhangar and other down-trodden people like Holkar.

Recalling Holkar’s contribution in history, Padalkar said “after a defeat in Panipat, Holkar took the responsibility of Maratha empire and made it into an opportunity. He fought with Mughals and expanded the empire uphill Katak.”

However, the established writers never gave him the due credit and tried to wipe out his name from history, Padalkar said. The BJP leader also drew attention to the Wafgaon fort of Holkar which is in a dilapidated condition. “If the masses would know the real history then they would rule and there won’t be any need to seek for our rights from ‘uncle-nephew’ politicians. We would at the most get opportunities at Zilla Parishad if we keep bowing before these politicians,” he said referring to nepotism in politics.

Appealing to the masses to take inspiration from Malharrao Holkar’s work, Padalkar said “we should not throw away political inferiority and fight for our rights. Malharrao has already taught us diplomacy. If someone is going against our rights, OBC reservation then we should stand firm to fight with them.”
