Ten die including 8 children while 11 sustain injuries and rescued after building collapses in Bhiwandi

According to BNCMC, half of the structure of the three-storied building collapsed in the night. Now the dilapidated portion of the structure is being removed by equipment and tools with the help of BNCMC workers.

Bhiwandi: Ten people died including eight children (at the age between 2 and 14) and 11 others sustained injuries and were rescued after a three-storied building collapsed in Dhamankar Naka area of Bhiwandi city near Mumbai in the wee hours of Monday. Eleven persons were rescued with the help of locals and the fire bridge team. The rescue operations continue at the collapsed building site in Bhiwandi since 4 am. 

As per Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) officials, the incident took place at Patel compound area of Dhamankar Naka in Bhiwandi on 3.45 am when all the building residents were fast asleep. 

According to BNCMC, the half structure of the three-storied building collapsed in the night. Now the dilapidated condition of the structure is removed by equipment and tools used by workers of BNCMC.

Jilani apartment was a 43-year old building which was ground plus three-storied building situated at Patel compound coming under the jurisdiction of Narpoli police station. There were 40 flats on which 150 residents were living there. NDRF and TDRF team suspect that 25 to 30 persons might still be stuck under the debris. 

According to RDMC information about it was provided by Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation that this building was not listed in the dilapidated building list.

So far, Alan Muhammad Nasari (25), Afsana Ansari (12), Islam Ansari (32), Nazma Ansari (65), Naziya Baigum (60) were trapped under the debris in the collapsed site, said Regional Disaster Management Cell  (RDMC) of Thane. 

The injured were rescued and admitted into the hospital were identified as Haidar Salmani (20), Rukhsar Qureshi (26), Mohammad Ali (60), Shabir Qureshi (30), Momon Shamiuhha Shaikh (45), Kaisar Siraj Shaikh(27), Rukhsar Zuber Shaikh (25), Abusad Sarojjdin Ansari (18), Avesh Sarojjudin (22), Zulekha Ali Shaikh, (52), Umed Zuber Qureshi (4).

The deceased were identified as Zuber Qureshi (30), Fayza Qureshi (5), Aaysha Qureshi (7), Babbu (27), Fatma Zuber Babu (2), Fatma Zuber Qureshi (8), Uzeb Zuber (6), Asqa Abid Ansari (14), Danish Ansari (12) Siraj Ahmad Shaikh (28). They all have been taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGM) in Bhiwandi.-By Narendra Gupta
