Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi intensified his party’s election campaign in Chhattisgarh on Saturday, making a series of promises to the electorate ahead of the upcoming state polls. Speaking at a rally in Bhanupratappur, one of the 20 seats set to vote in the first phase of state elections on November 7, Gandhi unveiled a set of key commitments aimed at securing voter support.
One of the central promises made by Rahul Gandhi was the pledge to provide free education in government institutes from kindergarten (KG) to post-graduation (PG) if the Congress retains power. This initiative, referred to as “KG to PG,” seeks to ensure that students have access to quality education without incurring tuition fees in government educational institutions.
“We will embark on a significant initiative, which we will call ‘KG to PG.’ From KG to PG, free education will be provided in government institutions to students if Congress retains power,” Gandhi declared, drawing applause from the audience.
Gandhi also seized the opportunity to target the Union government over the issue of a caste census. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for frequently mentioning his Other Backward Class (OBC) identity in his speeches but expressing reluctance to conduct a caste census.
“Modi ji says in every speech that he is an OBC, but why is he afraid of a caste census? The OBCs constitute about 50 percent of the country’s population. But Modi ji is trying to hide the population of OBCs, Dalits, and adivasis. We will conduct the caste-based census as soon as possible. If our government comes to power, the work will begin in two hours,” Gandhi stated, emphasizing the importance of accurate data to address the needs and concerns of various communities.
Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Chhattisgarh not only highlighted the Congress party’s election promises but also showcased the party’s focus on social and educational reforms in the region. As the state gears up for the upcoming elections, these commitments and pledges will likely play a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape and influencing the choices of the electorate.
