New Delhi: The four-day-long Chhath Puja 2025, one of the most sacred and eco-conscious Hindu festivals, concluded on Tuesday morning, October 28, with the offering of Usha Arghya (morning offerings) to Surya Dev (the Sun God) across India. The festival, celebrated with great devotion and purity, particularly in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, symbolises gratitude, discipline, and harmony with nature.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to devotees across the nation, acknowledging their deep faith and collective participation in the auspicious rituals. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote,

“Today, the auspicious conclusion of the great festival of Chhath took place with the morning arghya offered to Lord Sun God. During this four-day ritual, we witnessed the divine glimpse of our grand tradition of Chhath Puja.”

He further congratulated devotees and families observing the fast, adding,

“Heartfelt congratulations to all our family members who became part of this sacred festival, along with all the fasting devotees! May the boundless grace of Chhathi Maiya keep all your lives forever illuminated.”

On the third day of the festival, Sandhya Arghya (evening offerings), the Prime Minister shared a devotional track on X and appealed to citizens to join in the spirit of devotion. He wrote,

“Heartfelt Chhath Puja evening arghya wishes to all my family members across the country. On this sacred occasion, our tradition of offering arghya to the setting sun is very unique. May there be welfare for all by the grace of Lord Surya, may everyone attain happiness, prosperity, and success in life. This is the wish. Jai Chhathi Maiya!”

The four-day Chhath Puja — also known as Dala Chhath, Pratihar, Chhathi, or Surya Shashthi — is dedicated to worshipping the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. The rituals begin with Nahay-Khay and continue through Kharna, Sandhya Arghya, and finally Usha Arghya.

On the final day, devotees gather before dawn to offer Usha Arghya to the rising Sun, marking the conclusion of their nirjala fast (fast without water). The offerings, which include fruits, sugarcane, and Thekua, represent gratitude, purity, and thankfulness for the sustenance of life and nature’s blessings.
