Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is optimistic about Maharashtra’s participation in the Davos World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting, characterizing it as a momentous occasion for the state on the global stage. Shinde, anticipating a noteworthy foreign direct investment (FDI) of Rs 3.10 lakh-crore, underscored Maharashtra’s potential for economic growth and international recognition.
Addressing the media before his departure for Davos, Shinde emphasized the significance of the WEF meeting as a platform to showcase Maharashtra’s strengths to a global audience. He sees it as an unparalleled opportunity for branding and presenting the state’s offerings to influential figures from around the world, including heads of governments.
Shinde highlighted the willingness of foreign investors to engage with Maharashtra, citing the state’s robust infrastructure, connectivity, and skilled workforce. He lauded the flexibility of the state’s industry policy, positioning Maharashtra as an attractive destination for international players seeking to invest.
Reflecting on the achievements of the previous year, Shinde noted that Maharashtra had signed MoUs worth Rs 1.37 lakh-crore, with an impressive 76 percent implementation rate. Looking forward, the Chief Minister set ambitious targets for 2024, aiming for MoUs worth over Rs 3.10 lakh-crore across various sectors and districts in the state.
Attributing the state’s economic resurgence to his leadership, Shinde claimed that Maharashtra had regained its premier position in the country for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). He asserted that the Prime Minister’s vision of a USD Five Trillion economy hinges on Maharashtra’s success and outlined a target of Rs 1 trillion for the state.
During the WEF Davos 2024 meeting, Chief Minister Shinde has a packed schedule, including meetings with top corporate leaders, diplomats, and world leaders. The inauguration of the Maharashtra Pavilion near the India Hall is expected to serve as a focal point for crucial discussions and agreements.
Officials revealed that through the signed MoUs, Maharashtra aims to attract value-adding industries such as steel, IT, nuclear energy, renewable power, logistics, and agriculture. The agreements are anticipated to generate employment opportunities and contribute to the overall development of the state.
Chief Minister Shinde is set to meet prominent figures from the business world, including Gautam Adani of Adani Group, Michael Zahm of Amazon Web Services, and executives from companies like Hitachi Group, Carlsberg, and Dassault Systems. Additionally, discussions with international leaders and ministers from Oman, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa are on the agenda.
The World Economic Forum, an international NGO facilitating public-private sector collaboration, will host its 54th annual meeting. The event will bring together over 100 governments, major international organizations, partners, civil society leaders, experts, youth representatives, social entrepreneurs, and news outlets for a five-day collaborative dialogue.
