IT employees union ask CM Uddhav Thackeray to intervene by demanding compulsory work from home amid lockdown

The union, National Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has raised the demand of compulsory work from home for employees of IT companies, ITES, BPOs, and KPOs

Mumbai: A union of Information Technology (IT) companies has written to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray seeking support for the employees who have been already facing issues in their jobs amid lockdown due to pandemic.

National Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) the union of IT companies in the letter has urged the CM Thackeray to ask IT companies to enforce compulsory work from home for the employees across the state during strict lockdown. In several parts of the state, the state government of Maharashtra has laid down strict lockdown. The cities like Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Pune are daily witnessing high surge in Covid-19 patients.

In the letter NITES has stated that they want CM Thackeray’s intervention and support to prohibit the operations of IT/ITES/BPO/KPO companies to safeguard life, jobs and families. In the letter NITES mentioned that the IT hub in Pune has approximately six- lakhs employees. Considering the increase in the number of patients the companies should not force the employees to come to office. The employees can do work from home regularly.

The NITES has raised issues of more than 72,000 employees have filed petitions with the Labour Departments and District Magistrate against illegal terminations, reduction in wages , forceful resignation , deduction of earned leaves , forcing employees to apply leaves as vacation.

More employees from the IT sector, ITES, BPOs and KPOs are living in fear. In hard times like a pandemic crisis due to coronavirus employees are risking their lives to reach the offices in fear so they can safeguard the job. Many employees are facing financial setbacks also thus they should be allowed to work from home in strict lockdown described in the letter.
