Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail, recorded his statement on Saturday via video conferencing in connection with a 2017 extortion case. The statement was recorded in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate No. 7, Harshit Hada. Bishnoi answered the court’s questions, dismissing the allegations as false and claiming he was being framed by the police.
The case stems from an incident on March 4, 2017, when two men allegedly attempted to shoot businessman Manish Jain at his office. Their attempt failed when the bullet got stuck in the revolver. Jain subsequently filed a police complaint alleging that the men were linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. He also claimed to have received an internet call from Bishnoi, threatening to kill him if he did not pay extortion money.
In his defense, Bishnoi asserted that the charges were fabricated. “I have been in jail for the last 11 years. How can I threaten someone over the phone from jail? The police are framing me in false cases to put pressure on me and create fear,” he told the court.
Meanwhile, Bishnoi’s younger brother, Anmol Bishnoi, has been detained in the United States. Anmol is wanted in India for several criminal cases, including the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai’s Bandra area and the firing incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence earlier this year. Authorities are coordinating with international agencies to bring him back to India for prosecution.
