Mulund T ward has become corona hotspot and BMC has given catering to those who cook food for Covid patients at gutter and interestingly the authorities claim that the food can be cooked on gutter but should be of quality
Mumbai: Presently, Mulund has become a new hotspot due to surge in number of Covid patients. The city civic body has three covid centres and two hospitals for the patients .The responsibility of providing good quality food with nutritional diet is with the civic body along with treatment to the Covid patients.
However, it seems that the civic body officials are least bothered about the lives of hundreds of Covid patients treated under them as they are serving and allowing the food cooked at the gutter in Mulund.
A food outlet identified as hotel Anugragh located near Hanuman Chowk in Mulund East is providing the cooked food to Covid patients. The hotel is on the gutter and the caterer Rahul Baanvali is in-charge of it, says the civic body authority.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) provides food to the patients both symptomatic and asymptomatic admitted across the hospitals under them and also the Covid Centres .As per the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) the immunity of patients in both symptomatic and asymptomatic can fight against coronavirus.
When TheNews21 asked Kishore Gandhi Assistant Municipal Commissioner of (T-Ward ) Mulund that he has been eating food in the same outlet ‘Anugrah’ of caterer Rahul Baanvali and has found the food delicious.
“I see no issues with food cooked in the gutter. I am a regular visitor at this kitchen of Rahul Baanvali and there is no issue at all in food cooked on gutter , “explained Gandhi.
He further added , “It really does not matter where the food is cooked . It should be of good quality. ”
Vinod Bhakibhakre a resident from Mulund said , ” The caterer is allocated the tender depending on the proximity with politicians. These people are really not bothered about the lives of Covid patients. Else why would the senior official let the kitchen on gutter otherwise the BMC does not allow any hawker in uncleanliness and unhygienic condition. Why do they allow this kind of service to patients of coronavirus? They need a healthy nutritional diet but this is definitely of personal interest to all BMC officials.”
Mulund is identified as the Prince of the eastern suburbs and has a population of about 7.5 lakhs. Every day the number of patients are increasing due to which the covid centres at Mithaghar and near Octroi Naka are witnessing asymptomatic patients also. Gandhi told that as per record there are about 3800 Covid patients identified in T-ward till Friday.
When TheNews21 asked the BJP leader Kirit Somaiya on the ill-method of cooking food for Covid patients like gutters in Mulund. Somiya said, “I am not aware of this but I will personally check it.”
Amey Ghole the Chairman of BMC Health Committee said, ” I am not aware of it please provide details . I will ensure the action is initiated. ”
