In a poignant symbol of reconciliation and religious harmony, the first brick slated for the foundation of the new mosque in Ayodhya has made its journey back to Mumbai after being consecrated in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
The brick, crafted from Mumbai’s black soil and adorned with inscriptions from the Quran, arrived in the city last week after a sacred pilgrimage undertaken by five devotees. With its consecration complete, the brick will soon embark on its final leg of the journey to Dhannipur village near Ayodhya, the designated site for the mosque, following Ramzan Eid on March 12.
Haji Arafat Shaikh, chairman of the Masjid Muhammad Bin Abdullah Development Committee, expressed reverence for the forthcoming procession, which will see holy men carrying the brick from Kurla to Mulund, a grand spectacle marking the culmination of spiritual preparations. As the brick traverses the sacred route, breaks for prayers every 300 kilometers will punctuate the journey, underscoring the solemnity of the occasion.
The brick’s purification rituals, including a ceremonial wash with holy water from the Zam Zam spring near Mecca and attar from Medina, serve as testament to its sanctity and significance in the construction of Masjid Muhammad Bin Abdullah, named in honor of the prophet.
A descendant of Sufi saint Sarkar Peer Adil will have the honor of carrying the first brick, accompanied by representatives from diverse Islamic sects, symbolizing unity and inclusivity within the Muslim community. The mosque’s design, now revamped to embrace traditional elements, will feature five minarets symbolizing the fundamental tenets of Islam.
With the mosque committee’s commitment to transparency, a new website featuring a QR code for donations will be inaugurated on February 29, offering donors the opportunity to contribute to various projects within the mosque complex, including a cancer hospital, college, old-age home, and vegetarian kitchen.
Amidst the ceremonial pomp and spiritual fervor, the brick’s return to Mumbai encapsulates the spirit of communal amity and collective endeavor, epitomizing a shared vision of peace and harmony in Ayodhya’s storied landscape. As preparations for the mosque’s foundation reach their crescendo, the brick’s journey serves as a poignant reminder of the power of faith to transcend boundaries and foster unity amidst diversity.
