PM Modi, Finland President Stubb Hold Talks on Ukraine Conflict, Push for Deeper Tech and Trade Ties

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday spoke with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, with both leaders holding wide-ranging discussions on the Ukraine conflict and the future of India-Finland cooperation. The conversation, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), highlighted shared concerns, strategic alignment, and a vision for expanding bilateral and multilateral ties.

President Stubb briefed PM Modi on the outcome of recent meetings in Washington involving leaders from Europe, the United States, and Ukraine, which focused on possible pathways to resolve the ongoing war. In response, Modi reiterated India’s consistent call for dialogue, diplomacy, and the early restoration of peace and stability.

On the bilateral front, both leaders underscored their commitment to strengthen cooperation in next-generation technologies, including quantum computing, 6G, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and sustainability initiatives.

The MEA confirmed that President Stubb reaffirmed Finland’s support for the early conclusion of a mutually beneficial India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), while also backing India’s plan to host the AI Impact Summit in 2026.

Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to Stubb to visit India soon. Both leaders agreed to remain in close touch to ensure continued momentum in ties.

Reflecting on the discussion, PM Modi posted on X:

“Had a good conversation with President Alexander Stubb. Finland is a valued partner in the EU. Discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in key sectors such as trade, technology and sustainability. Exchanged perspectives on the ongoing efforts for peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.”

President Stubb too acknowledged India’s role in global affairs, tweeting:

“A good conversation with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. We discussed the need for a just and lasting solution to Russia’s war in Ukraine. Ending the war is in all our interests, it’s a shared goal. India plays an important role. It is heard and respected in the South, West and East. We also agreed on the need to further deepen the relations between India and the EU. Our cooperation grows and continues.”
