New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled the Communist Party of China’s (CPCs) centennial plan that of resolving the Taiwan question in the new era and unswervingly advance the cause of ‘national reunification’. “Resolving the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese, a matter that must be resolved by the Chinese”, remarked Jinping in his address at the opening session of the 20th CPCs National Conference that opened in Beijing on Sunday.

The Chinese President in his inaugural address further remarked, “We will continue to strive for peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and the utmost effort, but we will never promise to renounce the use of force, and we reserve the option of taking all measures necessary. This is directed solely at interference by outside forces and the few separatists seeking ‘Taiwan independence’, and their separatist activities, it is by no means targeted at our Taiwan compatriots”.

According to Chinese state media outlet, CGTN, Xi said that the wheels of history are rolling on toward China’s reunification and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. “Complete reunification of our country must be realized, and it can, without doubt, be realized.”

Jinping further remarked, “We have always shown respect and care for our Taiwan compatriots and worked to deliver benefits to them. We will continue to promote economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Straits.”

“We will encourage people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits to work together to promote Chinese culture and forge closer bonds”, he added further.

In his opening remarks at the CPC summit, he further announced that full control of Hong Kong has been achieved, and that Taiwan is next on the agenda.

President Xi Jinping added “We have fully and faithfully implemented the policy of ‘One Country, Two Systems’. We have upheld the policy of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ under which the people of Hong Kong administer Hong Kong and people of Macao administer Macao, both with a high degree of autonomy.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s pronouncements are being seen as a direct warning to the US Speaker Nancy Pelosi who had recently visited Taiwan on August 8 a couple of months ago. Soon after her visit China had resorted to firing of missiles and live ammunition across the island of Taiwan.

His remarks regarding reunification of Taiwan with Mainland China is also a terse warning to its neighbours with whom China has had disputed territorial claims. China had in its recent status paper presented before the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 16 termed Taiwan as its inseparable part of China.
