Srinagar: “No matter how rich you are, you can’t live without water.”
The above lines rightly serve the purpose for observing World Water Day. March 22 is celebrated as World Water Day, a day dedicated to drawing attention to the water related issues faced by humans almost every day in each and every country.
World Water Day became a United Nations observance day in 1993. Focusing on the theme of this year i.e., “Groundwater: making the invisible visible.” an awareness drive mainly focusing the attention on the global water crisis was held in the Mawar valley.
The importance of water and how we can come together to save it for our better future was imparted to the youth through poems, speech and skits.
The importance of celebrating this day and how the need for addressing this issue became the need of the hour was also explained to the children. They were also told about how the water resources are depleting at a very fast rate and how groundwater levels are going down thereby creating the necessity of developing artificial resources to conserve natural water.
A drawing competition was also conducted and all the winners were felicitated with attractive prizes and the event culminated with a rally taken out by the children educating people addressing the same issue.
The event and the rally were welcomed with warm hearts by the people of Mawar valley.
