Union Minister for Tourism, Culture G. Kishan Reddy has assured journalists that he will try to get the status of frontline warrior for journalists as they had discharged their duties risking their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic. He participated as chief guest at the Indian Journalists’ Union (IJU) national executive held in Hyderabad last evening. He recalled how journalists visited hospitals along with him to gather news.

He said he will raise the decisions of the IJU meeting with the Prime Minister to get the status of frontline warriors for journalists. He also expressed concern over false news becoming viral with the growth of social media in the country. He asked journalists to write news as it is.

During the two-day meetings, the IJU deliberated on several issues including the need for effective safety and security to Journalists, reforms in Press Council of India and basic facilities to the media fraternity sustaining the spirit under freedom of the press to serve the largest democracy in the world.

The union expressed serious concern over killings of journalists by anti-social elements and filing of cases against journalists and media houses by the governments to give a signal to them to fall in line.
