In the world of Bollywood, where dreams are as big as the silver screen itself, Emraan Hashmi stands as a testament to the power of perseverance and passion. Known for his roles in films that embody love, sex, and rock and roll, Emraan Hashmi reflects on his journey from an uncertain debutant to a leading man in the Indian film industry.
Emraan made his acting debut with the 2003 film “Footpath,” stepping into the limelight at a time when the production house Vishesh Films was undergoing a transformation, steering away from established stars and seeking fresh talent. Despite being related to the illustrious Bhatt brothers, Mahesh and Mukesh, Emraan acknowledges that his entry into the industry was a leap of faith taken by the visionary filmmakers who believed in his potential.
“They wanted to have their own home-grown star, that’s where I came in,” Emraan recalls. His association with Vishesh Films paved the way for a remarkable filmography, featuring memorable projects such as “Murder,” “Kalyug,” “Jannat,” and “Raaz,” among others, which captured audiences with their bold content and captivating narratives.
Reflecting on his humble beginnings, Emraan shares with Indian Express, “I took baby steps in the industry, it wasn’t that I had a grand launch. They were also taking a chance with me, they probably didn’t think I would have the acting chops.” However, he credits the support and guidance of the Bhatt brothers for instilling in him the determination to succeed against all odds.
Recalling a candid conversation with Mahesh Bhatt, Emraan reminisces, “He put the fear in me and said I better get my act together. He was clear, he said we can’t put our money on you if the audience doesn’t endorse you, if you are not a good actor, because we are not here for charity.” This candidness set the tone for Emraan’s journey, propelling him to constantly strive for excellence and prove his worth with each performance.
Now, as Emraan Hashmi embarks on a new chapter as a producer with the upcoming Disney Plus Hotstar series “Showtime,” he continues to push boundaries and explore new horizons in the world of entertainment. With a stellar cast and a compelling storyline, “Showtime” promises to captivate audiences and showcase Emraan’s multifaceted talents in a whole new light.
