A new viral video circulating on TikTok has left users frustrated as it freezes their screens, hindering their ability to scroll through the app. This issue comes amidst the app’s ongoing battle to avoid prohibition in the United States, with users facing potential restrictions unless ByteDance divests its U.S. operations.

The Problem Explained:

The viral video manipulates the TikTok app’s user interface, resulting in the freeze, though it doesn’t impact the functionality of the phones themselves. Users encountering the video find themselves unable to continue browsing their for-you page without forcibly closing the app. TikTok user @noahglenncarter drew attention to the problem in a video that amassed 12.1 million views, showcasing a message stating, “Unfortunately, I have to stop you from scrolling,” hinting at intentional interference with user interaction.

Investigation Findings:

Initial investigations suggest that the phenomenon arises from manipulation of the app’s interface rather than a genuine technical glitch. @noahglenncarter speculated on two possible causes: the audio or the image used in the video. He noted that if users can scroll past the video, then the image must somehow be manipulated. Moreover, he highlighted the potential consequences, stating that if others learn to replicate this method, TikTok could face significant disruption as users struggle to scroll past content.

Solutions to the Frozen Screen:

Fortunately, there are simple remedies available for users facing the frozen screen issue. As the screen and phone remain unaffected, users can refresh their feeds by pressing the home button or scrolling from the bottom right or middle of the screen. These actions bypass the illusory freeze, allowing uninterrupted browsing. Nonetheless, the prevalence of such TikToks poses inconvenience until a more permanent solution is implemented.

TikTok’s Response:

As of now, TikTok has not issued any statements regarding the viral video. Despite outreach from organizations like The Post and Forbes, the platform remains silent on the matter, leaving users to navigate the issue without official guidance or resolution.
