Nagpur:
Minister for School Education Balasaheb Thorat on Wednesday announced in the Legislative Council that the order to appoint 33 study groups while keeping the new government in the dark will be immediately scrapped. He said this while replying to a debate raised on the calling attention notice moved by MLC Kapil Patil (Lok Bharti).
Raising the debate, Patil argued that if the decision to appoint these study groups was implemented, the education system in the state would have been virtually dismantled. The study groups would have meant closure of 70,000 schools, voucher system would have been started instead of donations, night schools would have been brought into a crisis, and the set approval which would have adversely impacted the teachers.
Replying to the debate Thorat informed the house that these decisions were taken by the previous government. He added that it was imperative that the orders ought to have been brought to our notice, however, they were issued without him being shown. Therefore, he announced that we are canceling this circular immediately.
Taking objections to the printed reply to his notice Patil wanted to know how could the Minister give a printed answer of his predecessor? The Minister said that all the decisions have been canceled. Education policy announced by former minister for Education Vinod Tawde was completely scraped by the then Chief Minister. Kapil Patil pointed out that the Study Group was nothing but reintroducing the scraped policy through the backdoor.
