In a pointed critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, addressed a rally in Haryana’s Hisar district on Friday, highlighting the glaring absence of farmers during the consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

Gandhi stated, “When the temple in Ayodhya opened, you could see Adani, Ambani, and Amitabh Bachchan, but you could not see a single farmer. There was song and dance, and the media was celebrating… that is the reality.” His comments resonate with a broader sentiment of disconnection between the ruling party and the agricultural community, which forms the backbone of India’s economy.

At the rally, he emphasized how the presence of influential figures like Ambani and Adani overshadowed the voices of ordinary farmers, criticizing the BJP for prioritizing elite interests over the common people. “That is how Awadhesh (Samajwadi Party candidate) defeated them; he won because the whole of India is watching,” he added, showcasing a sense of optimism regarding the upcoming elections.

This is not the first time Gandhi has targeted the BJP regarding the Ram Mandir ceremony. Earlier, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Chhattisgarh, he expressed concerns about the lack of representation for the poor, stating, “I saw Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Ambani, and Adani, but not a single farmer or laborer. All the billionaires were there, delivering long speeches, while the voices of the poor were ignored.”

As the Congress party prepares for the elections, Gandhi’s comments aim to connect with the electorate by emphasizing their plight and calling for greater inclusivity in political discourse. His remarks are likely to galvanize support among the agricultural community in Haryana, challenging the BJP’s narrative as the Congress seeks to reclaim its influence in the state.
