Delhi: In a sharp and categorical response to Pakistan’s recent propaganda and military posturing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Wednesday issued a stern warning, saying any further escalation from Pakistan “will be responded to in an appropriate domain” and that the “choice is entirely that of Pakistan to make.”
Speaking to the media, Misri called out Pakistan’s long-standing pattern of misinformation and historical distortion. “There is nothing surprising in it,” he remarked, referring to Pakistan’s claims of downing Indian jets. “After all, this is a country that started lying as soon as it was born. In 1947, when the Pakistani army claimed Jammu and Kashmir, they lied not to any random person but to the United Nations that we have nothing to do with it… So this journey started 75 years ago,” he said.
Escalation Warning: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri warned, “If there is an attempt at further escalation by Pakistan, it will be responded to in an appropriate domain… the choice is entirely that of Pakistan to make.”
On Pakistan’s Misinformation: Responding to Islamabad’s claims of downing Indian jets, Misri said, “There is nothing surprising in it… this is a country that started lying as soon as it was born… in 1947, they lied to the United Nations about Kashmir.”
Neelum-Jhelum Dam Claim Rejected: Misri dismissed allegations that India targeted the Neelum-Jhelum dam in PoJK, calling it “absolutely fabricated and a blatant lie.” He warned Pakistan would be “solely responsible” if it retaliates using this as a pretext.
Terrorist Funerals With State Honours: Misri criticized Pakistan for wrapping terrorist bodies in national flags. “Giving state funerals to terrorists may be a practice in Pakistan, but it doesn’t make sense to us.”
Attack on Sikh Community: He revealed Pakistan targeted a gurdwara in Poonch. “Three members of the Sikh community were killed… a total of 16 civilians have died, many others injured.”
No Escalation From India: Misri stressed India’s strikes are “non-escalatory, precise, and measured” and “only targeted terrorist infrastructure.”
Pakistan’s Terror Links: “Pakistan’s reputation as the epicentre of global terrorism is well established… we don’t need to remind where Osama Bin Laden was found or who called him a martyr.”
UN Proscribed Terrorists in Pakistan: Misri noted Pakistan hosts many terrorists banned by the UN and other countries.
TRF & UNSC: Misri pointed out that Pakistan objected to UNSC discussions on The Resistance Front (TRF), even though TRF “claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack twice.”
