New Delhi: The Centre re-imposed GRAP IV restrictions in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday, January 15, in response to the deteriorating air quality levels. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) sub-committee announced the decision, invoking all actions under Stage-III (“Severe Air Quality of Delhi”) and Stage-IV (“Severe+” Air Quality of Delhi) of the existing Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) with immediate effect. These actions were implemented in addition to the Stage-I and II measures already in place.
A statement issued by the CAQM emphasized that all actions under the GRAP schedule would be strictly monitored and enforced across the entire NCR region. The authorities have called for heightened vigilance and an intensification of the measures to prevent further deterioration of air quality. Citizens have been urged to adhere to the citizen charter under GRAP to help mitigate the ongoing pollution crisis.
The re-imposition of these severe restrictions comes just a few days after the CAQM lifted Stage 3 restrictions on January 12, following an improvement in the air quality due to rainfall. However, with pollution levels on the rise again, the GRAP IV restrictions have been brought back to control the situation and ensure public health and safety.
