In the wake of Domino’s successful venture near the newly constructed Ram temple in Ayodhya, officials are contemplating the possibility of welcoming another iconic American fast-food chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), albeit with a unique condition: serving exclusively vegetarian fare.
Vishal Singh, a government official in Ayodhya, revealed to Moneycontrol that KFC could secure a spot along the Ayodhya-Lucknow highway, provided they adhere to the city’s strict dietary guidelines. Ayodhya, known for its reverence as the birthplace of Lord Ram, enforces a comprehensive ban on meat and alcohol within the Panch Kosi Marg, a sacred pilgrimage circuit encompassing significant sites linked to the Ramayana.
Singh emphasized the city’s receptiveness to commercial ventures but underscored the caveat: no non-vegetarian offerings within the Panch Kosi vicinity. This initiative aligns with Ayodhya’s efforts to preserve its cultural and religious sanctity while embracing economic development.
The prohibition on meat consumption mirrors similar restrictions in other spiritual hubs like Haridwar, where establishments like KFC operate outside city limits, specifically along the Haridwar-Roorkee highway.
