India won the gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay at the 2026 Asian Games after a strong performance in the final.
The Indian team of Kiran Pahal, M.R. Poovamma, Prachi and Vithya Ramaraj finished the race in 3:29.69 to take the top spot. Bahrain finished second, while China secured the bronze medal.
The victory adds another gold medal to India’s athletics campaign and continues the country’s impressive record in the women’s 4x400m relay at the Asian Games.
Poovamma brings experience to Indian team
M.R. Poovamma played an important role in India’s relay campaign. The experienced athlete had previously been part of the Indian teams that won gold in the women’s 4x400m relay at the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games.
Her experience proved valuable as India returned to the top of the podium after missing out on gold at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Ramaraj adds more medals to campaign
Vithya Ramaraj also had a successful Asian Games campaign before the relay final.
She had earlier helped India win silver in the mixed 4x400m relay. She also claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 400m hurdles.
Her performances added to India’s medal tally and made her one of the notable contributors to the country’s athletics campaign.
India extends remarkable relay record
India has a long history of success in the women’s 4x400m relay at the Asian Games. The country won silver medals in 1982, 1994 and 1998 before beginning a run of five consecutive gold medals from 2002 to 2018.
India finished with silver at the 2023 Hangzhou Games but returned to the top in 2026.
The 3:29.69 victory therefore marks another important chapter in India’s Asian Games athletics history and extends the country’s long-standing medal run in the event.
