The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced 10 candidates for the upcoming Legislative Council elections in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The list includes nominees for graduate and teacher constituencies in both states.
In Bihar, the BJP has named four candidates, while six candidates have been announced for Uttar Pradesh. The elections are scheduled to take place on October 23, with the nomination process closing on October 6.
BJP candidates for Bihar
The BJP has fielded the following candidates in Bihar:
- Patna Teachers constituency – Naval Kishore Yadav
- Kosi Graduates constituency – Dr N.K. Yadav
- Darbhanga Graduates constituency – Sarvesh Kumar
- Tirhut Teachers constituency – Narendra Prasad Singh
Naval Kishore Yadav and N.K. Yadav are sitting MLCs and have been given another opportunity to contest from their respective constituencies. Sarvesh Kumar, who currently serves as an independent MLC, has also been included in the BJP’s list.
The BJP is contesting four of Bihar’s eight graduate and teacher constituency seats as part of the NDA arrangement. Its alliance partner, the Janata Dal (United), is contesting the other four seats.
Six BJP candidates announced in Uttar Pradesh
For Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has selected six candidates for the Legislative Council polls.
The candidates are:
- Varanasi Graduates – Kedar Nath Singh
- Meerut Graduates – Dinesh Goel
- Allahabad-Jhansi Graduates – Ashok Kumar Rathore
- Varanasi Teachers – Dr Pramod Mishra
- Agra Teachers – Hari Kishore Tiwari
- Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers – Dhruv Tripathi
With this announcement, the BJP has completed its candidate list for the six seats it is contesting in the upcoming UP Legislative Council elections.
Polling scheduled for October 23
The Legislative Council elections in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh will be held on October 23. Candidates can file their nominations until October 6, while counting of votes is scheduled for October 27.
The contests are for graduate and teacher constituencies, which have a different electorate from regular Assembly elections.
The BJP’s candidate announcement comes as political parties prepare for the upcoming contests in both states. The final outcome will depend on the votes cast in the respective graduate and teacher constituencies.
