Mumbai: Due to the continued lockdown due to the Corona crisis the state government has decided to buy 10 Lac litre of milk from the  to resolve the milk problem. The Maharashtra government has decided to extend this plan till October this year. However, the Kisan Sabha and the Dudh Utpadak Sangharsh Samiti (DUSS) have opposed this decision of the Government. They allege that the decision taken by the government is not beneficial for farmers.

CPI (M) and Kisan Sabha leader Dr Ashok Dhawale said “This decision of purchasing 10 Lac litres was taken long ago and was a complete failure. In Yesterday’s cabinet meeting Dairy farmers should have been given procurement rate of Rs 10 per litre that is our demand.”

He also said “Before the Lockdown farmers used to get Rs 30 per litre and now the rate has been reduced to just 17 and 20 Rupees. “Since the problem has been created due to the lockdown the state government must pay Rs 10 procurement price directly into the bank accounts of the Dairy farmers”, he added.

Farmers are constantly protesting demanding for better Milk procurement rates in view of the lockdown situation. But the Government is not helping the farmer’s and making profit of a few Milk unions, alleged Kisan Sabha and Dudh Utpadak Sangharsh Samiti.

The government milk procurement plan is only applicable to the Cooperative Milk unions. Hence the majority of milk farmers who supply milk to private owners are actually being deprived of better procurement prices.

We request the Government to reconsider their decision and pay money directly in the farmer’s bank accounts and give them a relief, asserted Kisan Sabha and Dudh Utpadak Sangharsh Samiti.-By Rishikesh Chavan
