Karur Stampede Tragedy: 39 Dead, Celebrities and Leaders Express Grief

Karur: A political rally of TVK chief and actor Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, turned into a tragedy on Saturday (September 27) after a massive stampede broke out in the overcrowded venue. According to official reports, nearly 39 people lost their lives while around 60 others were injured. Several disturbing videos and photos from the rally showed people struggling to breathe and move amidst the chaos.

Kamal Haasan’s Condolences
Actor and politician Kamal Haasan expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. “My heart trembles. The news coming from Karur brings shock and sorrow. I am at a loss for words to express my deepest condolences to the innocent people who lost their lives trapped in the crowd congestion,” he wrote. Haasan further urged the state administration to act swiftly: “I urge the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that those rescued from the congestion receive proper treatment and that those affected receive appropriate relief.”

Rajinikanth Reacts
Superstar Rajinikanth also condoled the deaths. He wrote, “The news of the loss of innocent lives in the incident that occurred in Karur shakes the heart and causes immense grief. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Comfort to those who were injured.”

Kangana Ranaut’s Message
Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut took to social media to share her grief. She said, “Deeply pained by the tragic stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu. My condolences are with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the speedy recovery of all those injured.”

Overcrowding Blamed for Stampede
Authorities confirmed that overcrowding at the venue led to panic and chaos. Several people fainted and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials said the lack of crowd management worsened the situation.

Government Response
Following Chief Minister MK Stalin’s orders, DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji visited the Government Medical College and Hospital in Karur to meet the victims. Balaji announced that CM Stalin himself would visit Karur on Sunday (September 28) to review the situation and provide solace to the families affected by the tragedy.
