In response to the escalating security situation in West Asia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India expressed deep concern on Wednesday regarding the ongoing conflict involving Israel, Iran, and Lebanon. The MEA emphasized the importance of preventing the conflict from expanding into a broader regional crisis.
“We are deeply concerned at the escalation of the security situation in West Asia and reiterate our call for restraint by all concerned and protection of civilians,” stated the MEA in an official statement. The ministry urged all parties involved to seek resolution through dialogue and diplomacy, underscoring the need for calm amidst rising tensions.
The statement comes in light of Iran’s recent military actions, which included firing several rockets at Israel as a form of retaliation for the deaths of prominent leaders associated with Hamas and Hezbollah, who were backed by Tehran. This assault followed a massive Israeli airstrike that reportedly targeted military facilities in Lebanon, resulting in the death of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.
The Indian government has been closely monitoring the situation, urging Indian nationals to avoid any “non-essential” travel to Iran. Those currently residing in Iran have been advised to remain vigilant and maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran to ensure their safety amid the unrest.
In its statement, the MEA stressed, “It is important that the conflict doesn’t take a wider regional dimension, and we urge that all issues be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy.” Iran has indicated that its military actions against Israel have concluded for now but warned that it would retaliate if further provoked.
