Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday held an urgent meeting to discuss the increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases and also to discuss the various steps to curb them.
As per the Maharashtra state government’s report 1,648 new Covid-19 cases were reported, 918 recoveries and 17 deaths have been registered till Monday. The active Covid-19 case tally in the state stands at 9,813. Maharashtra’s Omicron tally has also surged to 141 with the addition of 31 new cases today.
In a bid to control the spread of the Coronavirus, the BMC has decided to do genome sequencing of each and every patient to ascertain that the increasing number of patients is not due to Omicron.
The BMC has hinted that it would take strict action against violators of the Covid appropriate behaviour if the cases are seen to be increasing.
The increase in the number of patients are all from offices, establishments etc. everything is open, people from foreign countries are coming to the city for Christmas and New Year.
Despite the imposition of section 144 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) which states that any state or territory may issue an order to prohibit the assembly of four or more people in an area. Flouting all norms, in many places people are seen moving out in public places without wearing a mask.
In order to curtail the spread of the disease and control the increasing numbers of patients BMC has ordered no party will be allowed for New Year.
While talking to newspersons, BMC’s Additional Municipal Corporation’s (AMC), Suresh Kakani said, that “More than 9 lakh citizens in the age group of 15-18 years are in Mumbai. Vaccines will be given to children from the age group 15-18 years at vaccination centres. There are more than 3 lakh health care workers and 10 lakh senior citizens who will be taking booster doses from January 10”.
“We are prepared as we have activated all our jumbo Covid centres, all our Vaccination centres are open. We will act as per the guidelines of the Center for administering the booster dose for health workers and senior citizens and also with the vaccination drive for children between the ages of 15 to 18”, added Kakani.
